A tunnel kiln is a modern, continuous firing thermal equipment. Its core purpose is to efficiently and stably fire and heat-treat large batches of products. It uses kiln cars to carry products sequentially through the preheating zone, firing zone, and cooling zone, achieving continuous production. It boasts significant advantages such as high output, low energy consumption, and stable product quality.
In the ceramics industry, tunnel kilns are the most widely used and core type of equipment. They are the primary equipment for firing daily-use ceramics (such as tableware and art ceramics), building ceramics (such as facing bricks), sanitary ware, as well as electrical porcelain and refractory materials. Specific processes include bisque firing and glaze firing, and they can adapt to oxidizing or reducing atmospheres, making them the preferred kiln type for high-end ceramic product production. Furthermore, for specific products such as foamed ceramics, there are specialized tunnel kiln technical standards and automated equipment to adapt to them.
Besides the ceramics field, tunnel kilns also play an important role in the metallurgical and abrasive industries, commonly used for the continuous heating of steel billets and the firing of abrasive products. In the building materials sector, they are used for the large-scale production of sintered bricks and tiles. With technological advancements, the conveying and heating methods of tunnel kilns have become increasingly refined, giving rise to various forms such as roller hearth, pusher plate, and even air cushion kilns. The latter are particularly suitable for the rapid firing of flat products (such as bricks and plates).
Overall, due to its continuous operation characteristics, tunnel kilns have become an indispensable key piece of equipment for the large-scale, single-product heat processing in modern industry.
