Zirconium bricks are a core special refractory material in the non-ferrous metal smelting industry. They are mainly used in key parts of smelting furnaces, playing a crucial role in resisting extreme high temperatures, preventing chemical corrosion, and ensuring metal purity.

The smelting of non-ferrous metals (such as copper, lead, zinc, and nickel) often involves temperatures exceeding 1500℃ and highly corrosive slag. Zirconium bricks, especially high-zirconium bricks with a zirconium oxide content higher than 90%, possess extremely high refractoriness (zirconium oxide melting point reaches approximately 2700℃) and excellent chemical stability. They can effectively resist the chemical corrosion of molten metal and alkaline slag, protecting the furnace structure and thus significantly extending the service life of the smelting furnace.
Due to their excellent erosion and corrosion resistance, zirconium bricks are often used to construct the harshest working environments in smelting furnaces, such as sidewalls, flow ports, electrode holes, and dam blocks. Especially in electric arc furnaces, electrode bricks need to possess both high resistivity and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. Zircon electrode bricks perfectly meet this requirement, preventing premature damage to the electrode area due to current heating and erosion by molten glass.
In the smelting of precious metals or high-purity non-ferrous metals, preventing refractory impurities from contaminating the metal products is crucial. Zircon bricks have a dense structure, and high-purity zircon bricks do not wet or react with most molten metals, effectively preventing “contamination” of non-ferrous metals during smelting. This is particularly critical for producing high-value alloys or metals for the electronics industry.
In summary, zircon bricks play the role of “armor” in non-ferrous metal smelting, ensuring continuous, stable, and high-purity output under high-temperature and highly corrosive conditions by constructing robust barriers in critical areas.
