The selection of refractory bricks for the ceramic industry should be based on the core conditions of the kiln, comprehensively considering factors such as temperature, performance, operating environment, and economics to ensure stable kiln operation and energy efficiency.
For medium-temperature kilns below 1300℃, refractory clay bricks can be used due to their high cost-effectiveness and good thermal shock resistance. For the medium-high temperature zone of 1300-1500℃, high-alumina bricks are preferred, with an alumina content exceeding 48%, offering excellent high-temperature strength and slag resistance. For the high-temperature zone above 1500℃, silica bricks, magnesia-alumina bricks, or corundum bricks should be selected. Corundum bricks can withstand temperatures below 1800℃ and are suitable for high-end ceramic firing zones.
Regarding thermal insulation and energy saving, lightweight insulating bricks such as lightweight clay bricks can be used in the kiln jacket to reduce heat loss. Thermal shock resistance is crucial for intermittent kilns; silicon carbide bricks or mullite refractory bricks are recommended to avoid damage caused by sudden temperature changes. For continuous kilns, attention should be paid to the room temperature strength and reheat line changes of the refractory bricks to ensure structural stability.
Magnesium alumina spinel bricks are used in alkaline atmosphere kilns, while silica bricks are preferred in acidic environments. High-wear areas such as the kiln mouth can use highly wear-resistant silicon carbide refractory bricks. Finally, economic considerations should be taken into account; while meeting technical specifications, different grades of materials should be rationally combined to balance initial investment and service life.
