Lightweight ultra-low conductivity mullite bricks are a high-end energy-saving upgrade of ordinary lightweight mullite bricks. They are based on high-purity mullite (3Al₂O₃・2SiO₂) as the main crystalline phase and adopt a microporous closed-pore composite process to construct a nanoscale fine sealed pore structure. This achieves the triple advantages of lightweight and low conductivity, including lower thermal conductivity, lower bulk density, and lower heat storage. They are specifically designed for energy-saving retrofitting of high-end intermittent kilns and high-temperature continuous kilns and are the mainstream high-efficiency heat-insulating refractory material for industrial furnaces under the dual-carbon policy.

Lightweight ultra-low conductivity mullite fire bricks are a high-end energy-saving upgrade of ordinary lightweight mullite bricks. They are based on high-purity mullite (3Al₂O₃・2SiO₂) as the main crystalline phase and adopt a microporous closed-pore composite process to construct a nanoscale fine sealed pore structure. This achieves the triple advantages of lightweight and low conductivity, including lower thermal conductivity, lower bulk density, and lower heat storage.

Exceptional Thermal Insulation and Outstanding Energy Savings

The closed micropores eliminate internal air convection, resulting in a 40-80°C reduction in furnace outer wall temperature for the same lining thickness, significantly reducing heat loss. The kiln insulation layer can be reduced by one-third, offering a clear advantage in scenarios with limited furnace size.

The high-purity mullite skeleton has an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, low high-temperature creep, and even lower re-firing shrinkage. Low-alumina grades can be used as backing, while high-alumina JM28L/30L grades can be directly used as the working surface lining, eliminating the need for a layer of heavy refractory bricks and simplifying the furnace lining structure.

The microporous structure buffers thermal stress, making it less prone to cracking under rapid heating and cooling. It provides long-term stability in neutral, weakly reducing, and weakly oxidizing atmospheres. The low-alkali, low-iron formula is suitable for white porcelain, lithium-ion battery anodes, and precision electronic sintering, with no product contamination.

 

The overall furnace lining weight is further reduced, and the manufacturing costs of the kiln trolley and steel structure are lowered; the bricks have high dimensional accuracy and can be cut into irregular shapes on site. Combined with ultra-low conductivity mullite refractory mortar, there are fewer mortar joints and better sealing.

Application of Lightweight Ultra-Low Conductivity Mullite Fire Brick

1. Ceramics & Electrical Porcelain Industry (Largest Usage): Roller kilns, shuttle kilns, pusher kilns (full lining, trolley insulation layer, kiln doors); low-iron, ultra-low conductivity models are preferred for white porcelain, glazed tiles, and special ceramics to prevent product yellowing; intermittent kilns offer the highest energy-saving benefits.

2. New Energy High-Temperature Sintering Kilns: Lithium-ion battery positive and negative electrode sintering furnaces, ceramic diaphragm kilns, graphitization furnace linings; high temperature control precision required, frequent temperature rises and falls.

3. Glass & Optical Glass Industry: Annealing kilns, tin bath insulation layers, small glass experimental kilns; resists alkali metal fume volatilization corrosion.

4. Petrochemical & High-End Heat Treatment Furnaces: Ethylene cracking furnaces, precision carburizing furnaces, stainless steel bright annealing furnaces, laboratory high-temperature electric furnaces; stable temperature control, reduced heat loss.

5.Metallurgical Small High-Temperature Furnaces: Forging trolley furnaces, aluminum annealing furnaces, small hot blast furnace back lining + hot face integrated lining.

Advantages of Lightweight Ultra-Low Conductivity Mullite Fire Bricks

Lightweight ultra-low conductivity mullite refractory bricks possess high strength, high wear resistance, high corrosion resistance, high load-bearing capacity, low density, and excellent thermal shock resistance, fully meeting the production process requirements of large and medium-sized cement rotary kilns. Their performance surpasses that of similar products. Taking a φ4.8-meter rotary kiln with a 40-meter bricklaying length as an example, the economic benefits are analyzed as follows:

The kiln’s outer surface temperature decreases by 80-100°C, reducing fuel consumption by 1 kg per ton of clinker. This translates to a reduction of 1500 tons of standard coal consumption annually, saving approximately 1.1 million yuan.

Saving 1500 tons of coal annually reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 4300 tons, as well as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and other harmful substances.

For the same 40-meter masonry section, this product is approximately 30 tons lighter than conventional products. The average operating current of the main drive motor can be reduced by 30A. Based on a 660V main drive motor voltage, this saves 19.8 kWh per hour, or 156,800 kWh per year. At an average industrial electricity price of 0.6 yuan/kWh, this translates to annual electricity cost savings of 94,000 yuan.

For the same volume of masonry, this product is 10% lighter than silicon mullite bricks and 20% lighter than magnesium aluminate spinel bricks. For the same 40-meter masonry section, silicon mullite bricks require 310 tons, while lightweight ultra-low conductivity mullite bricks only require 279 tons, saving 31 tons and reducing procurement costs by approximately 150,000 yuan.

The product’s lightweight design and low thermal conductivity reduce tire wear under pressure, effectively extending the rate of deformation and oxidation of the cylinder under high temperatures, thus extending the service life of the support rollers and the cylinder itself.
